Paul's Cry: Justification, Sanctification vs. the 2 Gospel Thieves

Paul's Cry: Justification, Sanctification
vs. the Gospel Thieves

Paul's Cry:
I love God’s law with all my heart.
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I am!
Q: who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Romans 7:22-24 NLT

Paul's Answer:
In the Sanctuary
Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Hebrews 1:3/4/14

Q: Who purges our sins?
A: Christ our High Priest.

Q: Who Justifies us?
A:  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done
but according to His mercy He saved us,
by the washing of regeneration,
and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
That being justified by His grace
we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Hebrews 9:12 /Titus 3:5,8

Q: Who Sanctifies us?
For both He that sanctifieth
and they who are sanctified are all of one:
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly;....
..through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience...
Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.
Hebrews 2:1/1 Thessalonians 5:23/1 Peter 1:2 /John 17:17

The 2 Gospel Thieves:
1) Legalism: Where we keep the Letter of the Law, but not the Spirit of the Law. Where we seek our own Piety rather than His.
2) Antinomianism: Where we reject the Law of God as applicable to the Christian life, free from any of it's obligations under the guise of Grace.
*"The Gospel, like its blessed Master, is always crucified between two thieves—legalists of all sorts on the one hand and Antinomians on the other;
the former robbing the Savior of the glory of His work for us,
and the other robbing Him of the glory of His work within us."
J.H. Thornwell

Paul Rejected Legalism: Not by works of righteousness which
we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us...
Titus 3:5
Paul Rejected Antinomianism: I love God’s law with all my heart....Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.
Romans 7:22 NLT/Romans 3:31 NLT
